Five regulations are being proposed so that administrative penalties can be issued for environmental contraventions under Ontario’s Environmental Protection Act, Nutrient Management Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Pesticides Act and Safe Drinking Water Act.
The proposed regulations and guidance document provide information on the circumstances when a provincial officer can issue an administrative penalty, including how the gravity component of a penalty will reflect the seriousness of the contravention (and other details). Documented information included with the notice describes examples of penalty ranges proposed for various contraventions and severity types.
