Proper environmental management in all organizations has been an expectation of governmental, non-governmental organizations and residents of your communities. However, only in recent years has environmental protection and prevention of pollution become a highly desired goal between customers and suppliers alike. The “environment” in past news coverage was often for catastrophic events and negative incidents – however, nowadays – we’re often seeing advertisements by the largest companies about their aggressive environmental goals, such as “NetZero goals by 2050”.
This course provides an overview on the purpose and intent of management systems – and how management systems are designed so that you’re consistently set-up to succeed, at everything you do!
Who benefits?
This training course benefits those who have little or no experience or training in environmental management systems or in environmental compliance obligations that apply to Ontario businesses. It benefits environmental systems staff and supervisors, management team members and technical staff. This course will also be helpful for those who wish to progress in their environmental management career and is a great foundation for an environmental auditor course. The environment benefits too!
Goals
To provide an overview of environmental management systems, ensure awareness of applicable environmental compliance obligations and awareness of what steps are required to conform to and comply with those requirements. Case study examples on how past environmental issues and Ontario court bulletins could have been prevented with a good environmental management system in place will be studied in the course as well. The course will also present best management practices for achieving environmental protection, prevention of pollution, fulfilment of compliance obligations and continual improvement.
Your course instructor is Brigitte Roth, who began her career with Kuntz Electroplating in 1996 fresh out of school with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies degree from the University of Waterloo. She is a management systems, compliance and risk management professional with over 25 years of experience and a certified environmental professional with ECO Canada, as an Environmental Management System Lead Auditor. She has conducted audits and training sessions at over 150 unique organizations of various industries in Canada.
