On November 13, 2019 The Canadian Association for Surface Finishing hosted its biennial surface industry conference at the Hilton Garden Inn Conference Centre in Vaughan. The conference focused on Risk, both in our personal and business environments; Resilience, required to handle those risks; and Sustainability, necessary to ensure long-term survival of business and the future of our planet. The conference was attended by 105 representatives of our surface finishing industry, including ownership, management, labour and users.
Robert Smith and Michael Kuntz opened the conference, while Stewart Tymchuk And Charles Morris presented the prestigious Leadership Award to Jenna Rogers on behalf of her late father Dennis Rogers.
The keynote speaker was Earl Sweet, Managing Director and Senior Economist, BMO Capital Markets. Earl spoke on the economic, financial and commodities market outlook.
During the conference, attendees had an opportunity to network, visit various exhibitors to discuss products and services available and in addition, listen to other guest speakers on topics pertinent to our surface finishing industry. Topics included: Impact of Cannabis Legislation on Employers; Extreme Weather and Climate Change; Using Emergency Management to Drive Compliance, Lower Risk and Identify Opportunities to Invest and Profit; Environmental Liabilities and How to Avoid Them; What Surface Finishers Need to Know About PFAS; and Chromium Electroplating, Chromium Anodizing and Research Etching Regulations.
The conference was a great success! Many people contributed in so many ways to turn this event into a smoothly running event with several very interesting presentations and a very good atmosphere for discussion and networking.
